I am absolutely delighted to report that the Class of 2016 has achieved the best GCSE results that Hyde Community College has ever recorded! From start to finish students in this year group have worked consistently hard and their dedication and resilience against a background of tougher exams and shifting grade boundaries has really paid off. An outstanding 71% of students achieved A*-C in both English and maths and the proportion of students achieving 5+ A*-C grades including English and maths has jumped by 14% to 62%; they really have put themselves in a strong position in terms of their post-16 careers. Charlotte-Anne Cotterill and Najrul Islam were among the top scorers with full suites of A* and A grades and twins Fawzhiah and Zhakiah Haque matched each other’s totals with a superb 7 A* and 2 A grades each! To add to the celebrations, Candy Zheng in Year 9 achieved a fantastic grade B in A Level Chinese and Jemma Begum, also Year 9, scored a brilliant A* in GCSE French.
Today’s GCSE accomplishments come on top of a highly successful set of results last week for our final A Level group, every single one of whom has secured a university place or an apprenticeship.
I am so very proud of all the students and staff of Team Hyde who have worked tirelessly to bring about this year’s outstanding results!
Congratulations to the following students who won medals at the Greater Manchester Athletics Competition on Saturday 11th June.
Harry Ditchfield (Year 9) won gold in the junior boys javelin competition after throwing 44.95m.
Paige Ditchfield (Year 11) won gold in the inter girls javelin competition throwing 32.19 and therefore has qualified to compete for Greater Manchester in the Mason Trophy next weekend in Birmingham.
Jason Stelfox (Year 9) won bronze in the junior boys 100m after running 12.05 seconds.
Well done to these three students on a superb performance on Saturday!
