Hospitality & Catering

Level 2 Hospitality & Catering
This is a brand new qualification equivalent to one GCSE.   It focuses on developing practical skills whilst also developing knowledge and understanding of the Hospitality and Catering Industry.

This course is broken into separate units and includes the following topics:

  • Practical cooking skills
  • Health and safety
  • Job roles in the Hospitality and Catering Industry
  • Customer service
  • Event planning
  • Nutrition and healthy eating
  • Teamwork and communication

Students use the knowledge they have gained through theory lessons to prepare and cook complete meals and also complete a range of hospitality tasks such as booking hotel rooms, laying tables and serving food and drinks.

After completing this course students may choose careers as a Chef, Waiter, Restaurant Manager, Hotel Manager or Receptionist.

Assessment
The course is assessed in the following ways:

The Written examination is worth 40% of qualification
This includes a range of multiple choice, short and long answer questions covering topics from the whole course.

The Controlled assessment element of the course is worth 60% of qualification
This involves a long term project where students have to demonstrate a range of practical cooking skills and the ability to run events in teams.
